Jay joined the firm in 1994, several years after clerking for Associate Justice J. Gorman Houston, Jr. of the Alabama Supreme Court. Jay has devoted his practice to litigation, and he is experienced in defending a variety of cases, including medical and legal malpractice, wrongful death, fraud, employment, premises liability, construction liability, worker’s compensation, constitutional and federal tort law and general commercial litigation. Jay also regularly advises clients regarding general business risk management.

A native of Eufaula, Jay graduated from Mississippi State University, and returned to Alabama to receive his juris doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1990. While in school, Jay was honored on the National Dean’s List in 1990 and Cumberland’s Dean’s List from 1988-90. Jay served as the president of the Federalist Society, the President of the Christian Legal Society, and was the ruling judge for the Trial Advocacy Board. While in school, Jay completed a judicial externship with the Hon. Judge Robert B. Propst, United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

When not working on behalf of his clients, Jay is actively involved in the community. Jay was an Elder at Eastwood Presbyterian Church from 2002 to 2018, and has served on the Board of Directors for Trinity Presbyterian School since 2003. Jay was a councilman for the Town of Pike Road from 2004-2008, previously serving as the vice chairman on the Board of Zoning and Adjustment. Jay served on the Executive Board of Directors for Faith Broadcasting from 1994-2005.

Jay is married to Sonja Sadler Hinton, and they have three boys, Jackson, Sadler and Walker Lee.
